VETERINARY FIRST AID/EMERGENCY KIT



PREVENTION IS THE BEST MEDICINE - IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY
  1. Prevent further injury to animals and humans
  2. Keep calm - determine resources available – consider alternative plans of action.
EMERGENCY FIRST AID KIT:
  1. CORONA OINTMENT (7 oz. tube) - Lanolin based ointment for abrasions/rope burns
  2. PREPODYNE SOLUTION (4 oz. Bottle) - Generic tamed iodine solution can be diluted 1: 10 for disinfectant / wound irrigation.  An alternate wound irrigation is a teaspoon of salt per quart of boiled water.
  3. PREPODYNE SCRUB (4 oz. bottle) - Surgical soap for cleaning wounds.
  4. BANDAGE MATERIALS:
    1. 2 VETRAP TAPE 3 " - Bandage rolls.
    2. 2 TELFA PAD 8 x 10 - Non stick pad / bandage
    3. 2 COTTON PADDING 6" ROLL - Bandage material.
    4. 2 WHITE / BROWN GAUZE 6" ROLL - Bandage
    5. 2 ELASTIKON TAPE 3" - Bandage material.
  5. 2 12cc SYRINGE - and 5 #19xl 1/2" Needles.
  6. FLY REPELLANT - For ears / face / wounds.
  7. FURAZOLIDINE SPRAY - For scrapes and abrasions.
  8. ASPIRIN (5 grain) 30 per 1000 pounds every 4 hours.  Can be dissolved in water and dosed.
  9. **DIPYRONE 100 cc BOTTLE - 20cc per 1000 pounds intramuscularly for spasmodic colic, muscular strain exhaustion, can repeat in 4 - 6 hours.
  10. **BANAMINE PASTE - A non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used for muscle disorders, lameness or colic.
  11. **PBENYLBUTAZONE PASTE 12 gm - A non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve joint / muscle inflammation i.e. lameness. 2 gm/1OOO lbs.
  12. **TRIPLE ANTIBIOTIC OR NITROFURAZONE OINTMENT - Antibacterial ointment for minor wounds.
  13. **TRIPLE ANTIBIOTIC OPTHALMIC OINTMENT -Ophthalmic ointment for eye injuries and eye infections.
** CAUTION:  Federal (U.S.D.A.) law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

These items can be packed in a duffel bag that will fit in a saddle bag which should be available on the trail not packed in dunnage.  Check the expiration dates at purchase.  Kit does not require refrigeration.
